Ms. Hill

With her recent Rock the Bell performance everyone is now buzzing about the current relevance of Lauryn Hill. Say what you will about her current relevance, her music is timeless. In many ways she still a contemporary to Ms. Minaj…because she is, and has been for the last 15 years, the only major opposing view point.

Forgive me, I didn’t want to start a debate about female MCs or battle over female archetypes. This isn’t even a good vs evil thing. Lauryn gave us a truth, just as Nicki is giving us hers now. I can not lie and say I wish someone now was giving us (little black girls) a little more of a Lauryn-esque truth. However, until said person materializes Lauryn will forever be relevant and the Miseducation will be played like it came out last week.
